Street Traders Return To Lagos Street.
Despite the law banning street trading in Lagos State,southwest, Nigeria ,hawkers have returned to street of Lagos with full force.
Investigations revealed that the hawkers who are between the ages of 10 to 15 are very prominent on streets of Lagos hawking, ground nuts, food,chin- chin,can and plastic soft drinks, wallnut and other items.
The hawkers are very prominent in Agege,Ikeja, ketu bus stop, Marina,Ojota,Mushin,Ajah ,Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja and Agidingbi .
Investigation further revealed that apart from hawking along the street of Lagos, they (hawkers) also display their wares at major bus stops which has been constituting nuisance to motorist.
Their modus operandi according to our findings is that they operate in a group of three or four and swarm on their would be customers with all form of aggression thereby either damaging their vehicle or causing major distractions which sometimes lead to accident.
Some of the motorist both private and commercial who spoke with our correspondent complained bitterly about the activities of the street traders saying its has returned Lagos to its old status of chaotic Lagos.
A commercial motorist who ply Iyana Ipaja to Oshodi said the hawkers also serve as spies to robbers who snatches telephone handsets ,neck lace ,money and other wares from motorist as they create artificial traffic along major roads.
Another motorist who spoke with our correspondent said the influx of the street traders has defeated the existence of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) in Lagos State.
